At One With Life
While sitting on a terrace, overlooking the land and sea, thoughts are voiced regarding an aspect of life...
“Apparently there is a space program to explore the planets and moons of the Solar system to discover if there is life on other worlds.”
“For what reason?”
“I’d heard it was to see if they could find an answer to the question - Are we alone?”
“Alone? A man is stranded on an island by himself for all his life – the small island and the waters around the island provide him the food and shelter he needs to live. Is he alone?”
“Yes. There is no one else there.”
“There are plants and animals on the island and fish in the sea… Would you still say he is alone?”
“Yes. He has no one to be with.”
“I see. So what are the space explorers expecting to find to conclude if we are ‘alone’ or not?”
“50 years ago, there were less than half the number of people on the Earth than there are today – are people now proportionately less lonely than they were back then? Has that increase in the human population added to the life worth of the experiences as a whole? Have 4 Billion more people made 4 billion unit increases in the life tally of the Earth?”
“There was life and there still is life.”
“Does an individual human birth account for more? If there is a type of increase, is that increase of a different measure than if it had been a birth of an elephant for example?”
“Do you mean in the sense of a calculation such as Life on Earth + 1 more equals a bigger overall measure of life?”
“In a way, yes. Is it the world that is alive? Would the loss of one elephant, human or even all of the dinosaurs mean a change in the definition of that overall understanding of there being life on earth?”
“I see. The world itself is alive. A consequence of that life being the individual aspects, lifeforms, which we see as life, yet even without them, the world would still be alive.”
“Yes. It is not many years since this suggestion would have been met with just ridicule but the modern day science also supports the premise – the world itself, in the waters, particularly around hydrothermal vents, exhibits the qualities that define what it is doing, as being alive!?”
“Its a lovely thought to see and appreciate the World as being alive, although as a lifeform in its own right, I wonder if it is alone and senses the loneliness.”
“How would it cope, what would such a consciousness do to overcome the isolation?”
“Maybe act to develop life aspects that would be appreciated as independent to add dynamic colour and vibrancy to the experience.”
“To see more.”
“For that to be true it would mean that the world has a consciousness and a very real connection with all life as we know it.”
“Yes, like a development of the senses and consciousness similar to the way a child develops.”
“Wow. I wonder when, or even if, there will come a day when there is a day of emergence of a life matured.”
“It could be now… I wonder what will happen. Would we even know from the position we are in?”
“There is a lot that is not understood. Take the human brain for example. Apparently a lot of it seems to not be used but what if that is going to change as the World matures… a consciousness that has a nature that is responsible for, and understands, a lot of, if not all, our thoughts and dreaming.”
“If that is true, I wonder if the life will be able to move around… become free from the earth itself once it has reached a level of development?”
“A jewel. Free to fly amongst the stars.”
“Or as a new born – one body with many within. Seemingly separate lifeforms but as one.”
“That sounds a bit odd.”
“Maybe not quite so odd as you think. Take humans for example. A person gets about their days in the knowledge they are an individual and yet carry in and on themselves an estimated 39 Trillion bacteria; many of which are essential to live healthy lives. Each of those bacteria are individual forms, living their own existence.”
“Does that mean the life of the World is God?”
“The life of the World is a creation of what this Universe is and what lies beyond.”
“A seed may produce a wonderful thing but that beauty can not rise alone, and would not exist if it was not for the existence of all there is.”
“Are we alone? Time and space would appear to be the gulf, and the bridge, for what most humans need to satisfy as the conditions for a conclusive answer. If there were just two humans on Earth; one in North America and one in Australia, would either of them be alone?”
