Tales of Life is a series of short stories.

--- 1 ---

There once was a man who loved living. He loved his friends and always looked at them in good ways.

God was with this man. The man spoke about God freely. Those who knew the man would never have described him as a holy man – they were all feeling happy and having what many would describe as a wild time… as well as being fully engaged in life, achieving joyful moments each and every day.

The presence of the man could be felt. It kept those who knew him feeling safe and happy.

Sour, jealous elements saw the man and the world he knew. They wanted to harm the joy and unity they were too sour faced to believe could be real. A number were seduced by the foul schemers; blind to the games they were playing. Their trust in the man was seduced by the deceitful; the joy and spirit that was with the man, no longer lay with them.

Without the love, they became resentful of the joy in others. All they needed to do was apologize with a genuine spirit.

Tales of Life...

--- 2 ---

Not too long ago, in an unremarkable town, there once was a man who fell from the life he knew. He fell due to an accident, followed by a crime, an injury and the friends he knew no longer recognising him, for what they knew, was no longer there.

The man was a joyful soul who cared for many things, not least the happiness in the World. He knew he had been hurt. However, he did not want the people he saw as the friends he held as family to know. He feared if they knew he was hurt, they would turn away and he would be alone. He therefore, each and every day, disregarded his own plight and sought more... and more… to show love and caring for those he loved. He hoped there would be a family of friends who would not fall.

In time, the consequences of his injuries, not seen by others, were getting too much to disregard. They were affecting his whole experience. Reduced to a lot less than he had been, he allowed ‘friends’, who had previously marvelled at the man, to get close. In a very short time, the so called friends, noticed there was a weakness. Instead of caring for the man, they took the change as a chance to try and take the place the man had held in the eyes of others; attempting to harm him and make claims that were not rightful.

The way the friends had got use to experiencing the world, the abilities which were emerging, were gifts they did not see, BUT, they were gifts because they knew the man. The man had trusted – their gifts grew. The choice they had was an easy one: Trust in the years of joy they had regaled, OR, find satisfaction in harming the person who had gifted them the joy. Nearly all chose badly. They enjoyed a position of dominance over the injured and the weakened.

The angel saw the events clearly.

The man was in pain – he had suffered a great loss due to crime, injuries and injustice, and the loss of the friends he would have known joyfully for all their lives.

The angel was, and is, the resolute judge. Although the friends should not have fallen, they had, and therefore received the same balance of judgement that his eye casts over aspects of states, nations and human endeavours; past, present and the beyond.

With God and the heavens, the man became strong and walked a new path.

The two travellers

--- 3 ---

A man was on a journey. He walked his path, looking at what he was, what he needed, what he had. He could not see far in the mist but was able to walk his path confidently. He was happy and content with the life he had; grateful for the thrill of living and the love that supported him.

A man was on a journey. He walked his path. He could see all that there was above, below and into the distance. The path was narrow. The man however was sure footed. He was happy and content with the life he had; grateful for the thrill of living and the love that supported him.

One day, both the travellers met at a place of unity. They began to talk, sharing their experiences.

The first man spoke.

- First Man - “It is impossible to see too far in the mist but the path has been clear enough. I have always found my way safely, being able to enjoy the varied textures and tones of the terrain with the strength to cope with the difficult parts.”

The second man spoke.

- Second Man - “On my journey I have been able to see all that lies around. High mountain passes with steep drops either side. The seemingly endless plains and impassible places. The path has been narrow but I am sure footed and can see the path clearly. It has brought me thrills and experiences that I love and cherish.”

- First Man - “The experience of your journey seems very different from mine. I wonder why you can see so much and I can not?”

- Second Man - “I have only ever known what I have known. Until we spoke I would not have believed such a different experience was possible. The mist you describe makes it feel like your journey has been surrounded by a mystery. I wonder if I too could follow a path like yours?”

- First Man - “Listening to your stories has made me think the same. I also have been wondering how your path and experiences could have been so different than mine. I think I would like to take your path to experience the wonders you have described.”

The two men talked until late. God was watching. He saw the way and knew the way.

The following morning, both men said farewell and continued on their journeys – the first man in the mist and the second able to see all above and below. As he travelled, the first man was recalling and reflecting upon the encounter. Without warning the mist cleared. He could now see all above and below. The path had sheer drops to the sides. In front there was a foreboding mountain. Behind there was a daunting treacherous ridge.

- First Man - “I don’t know what to do. I can’t go forwards or backwards. It’s too dangerous. I feel stuck. I don’t understand what to do.”

Meanwhile, the second man had also been recalling and reflecting upon his encounter. Without warning a mist enveloped him. He could just see the path but nothing more. He knew parts of the path could be dangerous, but now, surrounded by mist, could not plan and prepare in the way he always had.

- Second Man - “I cannot see enough to know if I am making good decisions. I don’t know what to do. I feel stuck.”

The first man held tight to the path, crawling inch by inch in the hope he would get to a more secure place. The second man felt bewildered and isolated. He moved very slowly forward, hoping to find a place with reassuring clarity.

The first man and the second man eventually did find a place and were surprised to find each other at this place.

- Second Man - “How did you find me in this mist?”

- First Man - “What mist? I think I must have taken a wrong turn. The path has been terrible with dangers I have never seen before and never want to again.

God spoke to them. The paths you follow are your paths. For some time, you have both been following the same path but the journey you know is different. Knowing the wonder and peace of your own paths is a celebration of living. The love of God. If you lose your way, stand firm in faith.

Both men listened and then celebrated.

Transition

--- 4 ---

There once was a man who found himself in a place that was not on his path. What he knew was lost to him. All the foundations of living he had known and relied on as anchors for his way were gone. All gone but one – God.

God knew the man. Knew his mind and loved him. He also knew what was and what will be. He knew the history of the man and knew the purpose he must fulfil for the sake of love…

***

In the time of transition on Earth, a man was born. Some say he came from the stars, others said he came from heaven. Few knew that he was the judge, written about in prophecies a long time ago, but not as thought by the prophets who wrote.

***

An innocent child, growing into a man, unaware that the world he knew was different; held and blessed, awaiting the time of action.

The time came.

The judge was not as the prophets assumed. The judge was open to the world. Through acts of wonder he drew the gaze of many. Many who were fewer than all that exist on this day but are the all in the life that there is.

Some saw the judge and knew the peace. Some looked and knew a fear that enforced a reverence for God’s angel. Some looked and were angered by the interference in what they believed to be rightfully theirs to control. Some looked in a foul way and then were nothing, for what they were, what they had become, was too distant from what they should be.

All knew an angel was here.

The Child in the World

--- 5 ---

One day, a child walked into the garden of the World. He had never seen such a wonderful place before. It filled his mind and body with a joy. He felt inspired, excited and peaceful simultaneously. He loved where he was. He loved what he saw. He ran through the meadows. Explored the forests and shores. He found excitement and adventure in the mountains.

Drinking from a fresh spring in a valley, he looked up and saw an apple tree, heavy with ripe fruit. He went over to the tree, greeting it as he neared. He thought the tree looked wonderful and the fruit delicious. He cheerfully took an apple and ate it while sitting under the branches. The Heavens were delighted with the child's honest joy for all that he had.

The child loved the world he had come to. He found a place to shelter and sleep. While watching the sun paint the sky in reds, he settled for sleep. The sleep was peaceful. He felt secure. He was sleeping in the place he knew as home.

He lived in the garden. Loving it, knowing it. The life of the World new the child, welcoming him everywhere he went.

The ages past and came to the time that is now. At this time, the time of transition, the child returned to the garden of the World, excited about the chance of revisiting a world he had known and loved.

God saw the child and knew he would see with an honesty that could not be deceived.

The Apple

--- 6 ---

***

The child grew into the man. The child was the man. The man held the child. He looked for the things he knew were good and cherished. The World knew the child and knew the man.

As a young man, he lived in a world where no one would attempt to control and trap him. The love he knew was, and is, the joy others saw.

The man matured and was prepared.

One day he saw an apple tree with fruit ripe for eating. The tree looked wonderful. He greeted it as he approached before taking an apple. While eating it, he sensed a difference to what he knew should be. The Heavens and the World watched.

The apple seems fine but is odd, as though a stain lies with it”, said the child to the man and the man to the child.

Hey!” came a shout. “Those are not your apples.”

I own the land and I own those trees. I own those apples”

The man and the child turned to look and saw a farmer. They saw him. They saw all that there was that made him be in such a way.

The man and the child were sad that their enjoyment of the fruit and their thanks to the World had been invaded.

Ownership and profit is a way of human society. However, the minds that are involved, should not be treating life, and the fruit of life, as though it is their possession in a way that makes a stain on life itself.

The Heavens and the World watched.

The apple was then blessed. The stain was then nothing. The fruit was freed from the stain. The apple was good.

Giving Thanks

--- 7 ---

***

A man stands looking out over his estate. From his study he enjoys the view of the formal garden, the serpentine lake and the surrounding mature woodland. He contemplates the wonderful life he has had and continues to enjoy fully. He walks through the house to the banqueting hall where his wife, children and grandchildren, along with other guests are preparing the finishing touches for his birthday celebration. His wife moves over to him. “Happy birthday darling”. “Happy birthday grandad!” came the excited shout from the youngest, racing towards him. Friends greet him as they move to the table to eat. He looks around the table. “I stand here, looking at you all, warmed, empowered and humbled, by you all. I feel so very happy with the life I have, and believe it would be so much less, if it were not for the love, friendship and camaraderie we know and enjoy together. I thank God each and every day for the life I have. Thank you.”

One day a traveller was found by the man in the woodland. The man asked him what he was doing. He replied, “I saw this wood and thought it was charming. I was just giving thanks to God for the life I have, when you arrived.”

What is it you give thanks for?” asked the man. “You are struggling to stand, you look very hungry, you seem alone and, if I may say, you appear to be destitute.”

The traveller looked at the man for a moment. “Sadly, all the things you say are true. That however, is not a reason, to not give thanks, for the life God has given us.”

The man thought for a moment. “Why would you give thanks when you are in the position you are. Are you not angry with God?

The traveller sat down against a tree. “There once was a father with a son who was coming of age. He loved him dearly and wanted him to enjoy all he could in the time he had. When he was old enough, he presented him with a surprise gift which he had been making for him for years. The father had made the finest vehicle for his son to be able to travel through life. A vehicle that was beyond anything the son ever dreamt he would ever know. The son overflowed with excitement, about the things he could do and the places he could go. He thanked his father again and again, such was his excitement. He loved his father. The father was delighted that his son had been inspired by having something special. Although he was sad to see him leave, he knew he had done what he could to ensure he could go out into the world to enjoy what he could. The son said farewell and set out on his life's adventure. Every day he used his vehicle, he thanked his father in his mind. He loved his gift and loved his father. He loved knowing the gift was made by his father who wanted him to be happy. The years passed. He travelled through life, loving his father and his vehicle. One day the son was dismayed to find his cherished vehicle had been damaged. It had happened due to a series of events, not of his own making, but the potential of the vehicle, and the feel of the vehicle was no longer there. He was no longer able to do the things he was dreaming of. The inspiration, that once flowed freely, now lacked the freedom he had revelled in.”

The traveller stopped and looked directly at the man. “Can you tell me, should the son now be angry with his father and replace his love and thanks with bitterness?”

The man stared blankly for a moment in quiet consideration. “I’m sorry. I was wrong to say what I said to you. Please allow me to help you up. I would like to show you my home. If you like it, I would feel privileged if you choose to live here in peace and security. There is a vacant cottage on the estate which you can take as your own.

The traveller stretched out his hand. The man helped him up and they began to walk to the house. “Thank you for your kindness. I can now see a future with days enriched with love and companionship.” said the traveller.

”Thank you God.”

Safe Passage

--- 8 ---

***

In a land of a time now past, yet in the present of the time now known, a child was born and a man now walks. He is a miracle. A work of God. Magical in all the ways that magical can be when bestowed by God. The man is generous, he is kind, he is joyful. He has fought and defeated a foulness that attempted to stain the World. He is the shining rider, valiant, steadfast upon his steed.

One day, a child, who had been wandering, enjoying the freedom of nature in the open spaces, realised he had lost the path. He searched for his way back. He was filled with a mix of senses. He felt a little bit worried being unable to find the path, but, he also liked the forest and felt some excitement about the adventure he had found himself in. He was sure he would find the path, he just needed to be brave and all would be well.

As the sun left the sky, night enveloped him. He was not concerned about the darkness; the character of the forest took on a different charm. He was wrapped in the love of God. Standing in the emerging moonlight, the child heard footsteps. The footsteps sounded like a person walking calmly through the dark.

Hello.”

The child stood looking at a hooded man in a cloak. When he looked at him he saw a young man. Looking for longer he saw an older man with kind eyes, strong features with a glow about him. The man looked back at the child calmly.

Can you help me? I’m lost.”

The man smiled, “That all depends. What is it you wish to find to then know you are no longer lost?”

I’ve lost the path. I don’t know how to get home.” said the child, looking intently at the man who appeared to have light all around him.

The man took the child by the hand. ”You are on your path. You have never left it. Many would be afraid in the forest at night. You however have a faith within you. A faith you never question and a love for the life you know; it is a delight to many.

The child listened to the man. He felt peaceful and sure.

I’ve never been lost before. I thought I knew the forest.”

You’ll never be truly lost. You are loved by more than you realize.”

As they walked, the child turned to look at the man. He now appeared much much taller, and, to his surprise, appeared to be clothed in a brilliant white.

I have seen you look in different ways since you found me in the dark. Why is that?”

The ‘man’ turned gently to look at the child who was stood straight, with his head held back as far as he could, to look up.

You needed to know that you were not lost. Be free, be happy and know you will never be lost. Look and see where we are.”

The child looked and saw his home, his friends, all the people who cared for him and was filled with a warmth for all the things he knew. “That’s amazing. We got here easily despite the dark. How did you know this is where I needed to be?” asked the child.

I know you and love you. Go now. Tell your loved ones your tale and be happy.”

Journey with God

--- 9 ---

***

"In a time that is more than this day, in a place that is not of this world, there is a celebration of all that there is. It is eternal. All life exists because of this place. All that there is, is seen by this place.”

There once was a man with the love to live his life in the knowledge that joy, would defeat any bitterness, jealousy and foulness, that might otherwise cross his journey, as he interacted with others in his daily life. For many years he lived well, always true to his way. He could see clearly what people were. He was never deceived. There were people that he welcomed and there were others he politely distanced himself from – knowing what they were and what they would bring.

Following an injury, he was unable to see clearly. After placing his trust in the wrong people, he found himself in an impossible situation that prevented him from living the life he loved. There was no avenue, no plan, no options, that the man could look for and hold in his mind. He could not grasp a moment as his own. There was no one in his world to look for, no one to ask, no one to talk to and no place to know as home. In the time of deepest uncertainty, there came a moment when a light emerged. The light carried the Word and the Word was the light.

***

"You have been injured and suffered due to the indifference of those you thought you were loved by, and those you could trust. Since then, not a single person in the world you’ve known has believed you, trusted you, or cared for you. Foul people have corrupted what is right and proper.”

***

The light lifted the man from the place he had been and took him on a journey.

On his journey, the man saw many new things. Things that he’d never believed could be possible. He learnt new ways. He was held by the light and remade by the Word. The man was the man but became new. The light is with the man. God is with the man. The Heavens are with the man.

Still on his journey, the man has been remade. From the darkness and into the light, the man never let go of his belief that the love of life, and the joy of living, will be the bedrock of freedom. God, the light, the heavens and the World are in this man and with this man. Living with God, the man has no will to defeat a 'person'. The light however has rid the world of foulness. It has been defeated.

The man stands victorious.

Transition Begins

--- 10 ---

***

The time of Transition fell upon the World. The judge of the ages looked at all that had been. The mind of the World moved and grew. The realm of understanding in life emerged – a metamorphosis seen and known by the One and the many that are not of this place.

This is the tale of a man we will call Joshua. A kind, thoughtful, happy, loving man who had lived with an honesty that had served him well. Joshua was well known and liked in his community and beyond. He saw things clearly. He could see clearly what could harm people and chose to bolster and protect them, when he could, so they may then flourish and live in joyful, rewarding, wholesome ways. Joshua had a deep trust and faith in God.

One day he became lost in a wilderness. He could not find his way home. The day turned to night and the nights became many. So many that the seasons changed, and so much time passed, Joshua became a person living in the wilderness. Each day, he thanked God for the life he had. He had learnt ways of finding food and water, which he did with greater skill as time went on. His shelters were always comfortable. He looked at the world that lay around and saw a beauty in life; a deep richness. He was filled with a wisdom that seemed to grow naturally within. The insanity of loneliness had passed from Joshua, replaced by a growing peace and serenity of a holy nature.

Looking from his shelter, Joshua smiled as the rising sun placed it’s first rays over a mountain peak. On the plain below, Joshua could see a figure walking towards him. The first person he had seen for many seasons. Filled with a mix of emotions, Joshua watched as the figure approached. The glare of the sun prevented Joshua seeing clearly. As the stranger came near, Joshua could see the ‘man’ was like a brilliant light and taller than any human could ever be.

Joshua. It is time to leave this place. You have made peace with your existence. Your time here is complete. Come with me.”

Joshua looked at the ‘man’ and felt a relief, knowing something amazing. Something special. Without a word, he walked over to, and then walked with the ‘man’. The moments felt timeless to Joshua. He walked in a sublime peace. An inspiration to everything he was.

Joshua. You have been remade. I give you one task. Be yourself. Never be apologetic for being yourself. Never be afraid to be yourself. What you are is more than you will ever know while you are here in this World. What you say will be more than the words that come from your mouth. People are more than they know. Your very being will speak to that which is not seen by the people. What you are is a joy to more than you know. Be happy. Go now to the town in the valley. You will be seen by the right people who will give you the friendship and support you need.”

In the Heavens, All watched. Joshua walked the path. Loved by God. Blessed by God.
